A luxurious Persian stew of chicken simmered in ground walnuts and pomegranate molasses, prized for holiday and celebratory meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken pieces
  • 2 cups walnuts, finely ground
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate molasses
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, optional
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

    Brown the chicken lightly in oil and set aside.

    Cook the onion until soft, then add the ground walnuts and turmeric.
